You might find this hard to believe, but it’s sugar! You can use granulated sugar or brown sugar, but it’s an absolute must. Tomato sauce is quite tart due to it being very acidic. The sugar is used to balance the flavors.

  • Don’t cook the pasta until sauce is already made.
  • Don’t allow the pasta to cook too long, as it’ll continue to cook once added to the sauce.
  • Save some of the pasta water to add to the sauce.
  • Adding a form of cream really elevates the flavor of your sauce. Cream cheese makes an excellent option or heavy cream.
  • If adding cheese add it last on top of dish.

Yes! After you make the sauce, put it in a container that has a lid. Allow it to fully cool with the lid open.

Once sauce has fully cooled, put it in the fridge to set over night or even 2-3 days ahead.

As the sauce sets in the fridge, it becomes more flavorful!

Ingredients for preparing the meat:

  • 2lbs of hamburger meat
  • 1/2 medium to large yellow onion
  • 6 cloves of garlic
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1tsp garlic powder
  • 1tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasonings
  • 1/2 tsp cumin

Ingredients for Sauce:

  • 4oz cream cheese
  • 2- 15oz cans of tomato sauce
  • 1- 6oz can of tomato paste
  • 2tsp salt
  • 1tbs sugar
  • 1tsp Italian seasonings
  • 1tsp garlic powder
  • 1tsp onion powder

Tools:

  • Deep Skillet with lid
  • Pot for cooking pasta
  • cutting board and knife for chopping
  • Mixing spoon

How To Make Homemade Pasta Sauce Step-By-Step Instructions

Heat your skillet on medium with 1 to 2 tsps of avocado oil or olive oil.

While your deep skillet is heating up chop up onion and mince garlic.

Sauté onions by mixing them around every so often for 2 to 3 minutes.

Add in garlic to sauté for 30 seconds before adding the meat.

Drain extra fat from meat. Depending on the meat you buy, will depend on how much extra fat there is. Drain most, but not all.

In a pot add water and a couple pinches of salt.
