Now, we have 15-year-old Tamworth singer Lane Pittman, singing Luke Combs’ Even Though I’m Leaving, for his dad, who died in a car accident in 2018.
All four chairs turn and no-one can believe Luke is only 15; he has a rich, mature voice and a wisdom, it seems, beyond his years.
As a country lover, Lane chooses Keith, which is to be expected.
They’re a match made in heaven!
Bringing a totally different vibe to the room is 23-year-old K-pop lover Amber Reid from Perth.
With her bright outfit and fun accessories, she’s got the cute K-pop look down pat, but she’s also got the voice to match.
Singing the BTS hit Bubble, she brings joy, energy and a sprinkling of fairy dust to the room that has everyone up and dancing.
Amber is a breath of fresh air, and as Guy says, she has a ready-made, radio-friendly, recordable pop voice.
Amber goes with Jess, whom she’s such a fan of that she’s actually brought in a hand-drawn picture of her. Sweet!
Keeping the sweet mood going are South Australian siblings Ella, 19, and Sienna, 15, who sing Taylor Swift’s Cardigan as a duo.
Their harmonies are a delight - they immediately remind me of Swedish sibling duo First Aid Kit - and Jess, Keith and Rita all turn.
Rita talks about her bond with her own sister, and it’s a pitch that works - the sisters go with her.
When Queensland singer Chriddy Black’s duet partner bails out at the last minute, the 29-year-old has to decide whether or not he’ll sing, on his own, the song they had planned to perform together.
He’s devastated - he and his singing partner have been rehearsing their audition piece for ages.
Now, if he’s to go ahead, he must remember all the lines his other half would have been performing.
He decides to go ahead - singing Stay by The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber - and he SMASHES IT!!
Turns out Chriddy was part of Guy Sebastian’s team back in a previous season and Guy let him go.
Guy’s a bit sheepish now, and feels he has precisely zero chance of getting him back.
When Chriddy reveals that the song was originally supposed to be performed as a duet, the coaches are even more impressed.
“What’s weird is that you sang Stay, and he left,” Guy jokes.
“Your mate not turning up is probably the best thing that ever happened to you,” Rita adds.
But it’s Keith’s recognition of what it took to sing that song live that resonates with Chriddy, and he wins the singer’s vote.
Connor Wink, 23, from NSW, has been blind since he was a baby.
He’s a massive Cher fan, having even met her twice, and his audition piece is her classic hit Believe, which he slows down and sings as a ballad.
And it’s quite sublime.
Rita congratulates Connor on knowing how to create a fresh mood from a song everyone knows as an up-tempo club hit and turn it into something that quietens the room to just listen.
Connor chooses Guy, who walks over to meet his parents, clearly overwhelmed with emotion.
It’s such a beautiful moment.
The final contestant of the night has one of the most fabulous names I’ve ever come across: Celestial Utai.
She’s singing Beyonce’s Deja Vu, no mean feat, and she absolutely kills it.
I know Jess Mauboy is really into a singer when she gets up from her chair, pulls her “fierce face” and starts waving her arms around.
Celestial, from Ipswich in Queensland, has groove, she has soul, she has power - she has it all!
The coaches are beside themselves by the end, giving her a standing ovation and praising her timing and rhythm.
“That was Deja-Whooo!” Keith exclaims.
“Nobody needs to teach you how to sing,” Rita adds.
“It’s about picking the right songs for you that show strength, because that’s what you are, a powerful and independent woman.”
Jess is halfway through her pitch when she’s blocked - ooooh, nasty!
Celestial goes with Guy Sebastian and gifts him with a traditional Samoan necklace as a symbol of respect and appreciation.
Guy is beside himself. He knows he has a potential winner here, and he gives Celestial a Battle Pass, meaning she will go straight into the top six of his team.
She’s definitely going to be one to watch.
We’re getting close to the coaches’ teams being full and I can honestly say I am blown away by how much talent we’ve seen during the Blind Auditions.
I can’t wait to see what these talented vocalists do next and how far they go in the competition.
For me, it would be hard to pick a clear winner at this stage, although hey, I have my personal favourites.
And they are ... nope, not telling!
